Goodman Review

I really enjoyed and agreed with Goodman's piece on conquering one's inner critic. I personally love to write but often face similar dilemmas that Goodman addressed in her piece. I really enjoyed the way she presented the information as well, in personified manner. I really enjoyed and agreed with the point when she made saying that the inner obstacles make us fail and we find comfort in it. I know I personally have been in that position a number of times. Overall, this piece made me very excited to start writing pieces for this class. I used to do free writing in my spare time but haven't since attending Iowa State. Perhaps I'll restart.

  1. Matt, Mallory here...
When I read your blog title, I instantly think of MacBeth, did you do that on purpose? (Always say yes to this question! :-) I like it, it makes me smile. Wordplay is fun. When we think of academic writing, fun goes out the window, right? Your personal voice goes out the window, right? But it doesn't need to. No one ever wrote anything that made a difference without being deeply invested in what they wrote or researched.
I appreciate your perspective here, and I want to toss this out there too: I have NEVER met a professional writer/professor who didn't also struggle with feeling ridiculed by that inner critic of what you speak. There will be a time for us to perfect our writing, but first we must have writing--your thoughts on paper. I'm happy I get to be an audience for your thinking, and I'm glad you're excited to get started!
